A Briefing On Internal Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are scientifically described as, "the blood vessel-filled tissue at the meeting of the anus and the rectum." If used in the popular sense of, "I have hemorrhoids," the word refers to vein varicosities in the hemorrhoids, that is to say swollen, entwined and/or enlarged veins within the tissue at the meeting of the rectum and the anus. Perianal hematoma, which is actually bruising caused by ruptured veins within the perianal tissue, can be mistaken for and misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids. The treatment for hemorrhoids is completely different than the remedy for perianal hematoma. This short article will deal with internal hemorrhoids.
There are two types of hemorrhoids, internal and external. For our purposes, we shall define internal hemorrhoids as, "varicosities (swollen, knotted and/or enlarged veins) within the hemorrhoid tissue inside the rectum."
Hemorrhoid tissue in the rectum drains the region of the superior rectal arteries. The tissue within this region does not have pain receptors. Consequently, internal hemorrhoids usually go unnoticed unless irritated, at which time they may bleed. At times other rectal issues are wrongly diagnosed as hemorrhoids. Conditions that may create hemorrhoid-like symptoms include abscesses, anal irritation, itching or melanoma, fistulae, and fissures.
Internal hemorrhoids are usually not life threatening or dangerous. Mild hemorrhoid indications normally resolve within a number of days. Many individuals with hemorrhoids do not manifest symptoms. For most, their first sign of hemorrhoids is blood on the feces, toilet paper or within the bowl. When an inflamed internal hemorrhoid is forced outside the anus, often during defecation, it's called a protruding hemorrhoid. With hemorrhoids, rubbing and cleaning of the anus makes matters worse. The irritation can bring about a cycle of signs and symptoms.
With no proper treatment internal hemorrhoids could worsen to prolapsed hemorrhoids or even strangulated hemorrhoids. A prolapsed hemorrhoid is a protruding internal hemorrhoid that remains outside the anus even when the anus is closed. Note the development: from an internal hemorrhoid to a protruding hemorrhoid to a prolapsed hemorrhoid.
The ultimate stage is a strangulated hemorrhoid. This occurs when the sphincter, trying to rid itself of the irritant of the prolapsed hemorrhoid, becomes spastic. The muscle spasm cuts off the blood supply to the veins in the hemorrhoid, strangling it.
The Banov grading system is the most common means of classifying hemorrhoids by severity. In the Banov system, hemorrhoids are ranked on a scale of one to four A grade 1 hemorrhoid does not protrude - that is, it's a true internal hemorrhoid. Grade 2 hemorrhoids protrude out of the anus when defecation is taking place, but spontaneously reduce with the removal of muscle tension and withdraw to an interior position. Grade three hemorrhoids must be manually reduced (squeezed) as soon as defecation is finished to allow to withdraw inside the anus. Grade 4 hemorrhoids need surgery as they are external to the body and cannot be manually reduced.
Internal hemorrhoids can be the result of chronic bowel problems, diarrhea, portal hypertension, weight problems, poor muscle tone, poor stance and pregnancy. Excessive consumption of alcohol or caffeine is thought to at least aggravate hemorrhoids.
Study The Varying Stages And Severity Of Hemorrhoids As you may already have been aware -- hemorrhoids come in various shapes and sizes, and how severe they are also can vary greatly from case to case. Due to this, there is a way to differentiate between the different degrees of hemorrhoids..
A Short Classification Of Internal Hemorrhoids The treatment for internal hemorrhoids is different from the treatment for perianal hematoma, with which internal hemorrhoids are often confused with. Anatomically speaking, 'hemorrhoid' is a descriptive term for the tissue that forms the joint between the rectum and the anus.
Etiology And Treatment Plan Of Internal Hemorrhoids Hemorrhoids are classed as either internal or external. All hemorrhoids start as an internal hemorrhoid. At their worst, hemorrhoids protrude out the anus even when the muscle is closed.
